What Is A SCENE GIRL?
How To Be A Scene Girl
(NOTE: This may contain sarcasm, dry humor, and exaggeration; if you are easily offended then it's best that you don't read it. Also, these are not hard, fast rules - i definitely make exceptions, just like lots of other girls do too. These are the basic guidelines and principles for the stereotypical scene girl.)

A scene girl is a girl in the age range of 12 - 20 that is confident, stylish, and unafraid to rock her own lifestyle and couldn't care less of what anyone might think of her. She can be perky or cynical, sophisticated or adorable. She will boldly rock neon colors and tight pants, or, if she feels like it, plastic rhinestone tiaras and puffy tutus. A scene girl is girly to the max, and isn't afraid to show it. Most of all, a scene girl is beautiful - not because she relies on other people to tell her so, but because she truly believes she is.
Step One: Hair
Grab the scissors. Chop hair into as many layers as possible, shorter on the top and super long on the bottom. Don't even try to make it look perfect; scene hair never is. Make angled bangs that fall over one or both eyes. After you've got the cut that suits you, dye it. The general rule is either ebony black or bleached. It's hard to pull off a color like blue or pink, but if you're dying for the shock factor, go for it. If you're not quite ready for something that drastic, try some bold hair extensions. Pink is popular, as well as striped coontails. After this, straighten it. ALL scene girls straighten their hair, NQA. Next you'll want to tease it, by backcombing the shorter top pieces so they stand up. Basically that means matting up your hair and then combing pieces over it so you can't see the tangles. You'll also want to add some extensions that match your main hair color if you've got shorter hair. Use lots of hairspray to keep the body and touch up your style throughout the day.

Step Two: Cosmetics
Start by picking a colorful eyeshadow like pink or orange or turquoise - pretty much whatever you're in the mood for. Coordinate it with your hair extensions, a necklace, or a bag, but don't make the coordination too obvious, like matching your entire outfit or the same color as your eyes. Next, use a black eyeliner to enhance your eyes - btw, liner and mascara? ALWAYS black, whether blond or raven or somewhere inbetween. We are not going for the natural look here, people. Okay, anyway, use a khol or pencil liner to smudge around your lashline, then use a liquid liner to wing it out and make a cool cleopatra-cat-eye look, starting from the middle top lashes to the outer edge of the eye. After that, use a volumizing or lengthening mascara to make your lashes appear longer (and you better not be wondering what color to use). Go ahead and clump it on as much as you want. You're going for the raccoon-zombie look.
For the rest of your face, use a concealer to cover flaws and spots. Top it with a matte powder. Use a black or brown liner to trace in your eyebrows (which, btw, should be rather long and skinny). Don't wear any blush, bronzer, or lipcolor. Scene makeup is all about the eyes.

Step Three: Wardrobe
This is the fun part! The basis of scene style is colored leopard or tiger print, cute characters, bold print like checkers or polka dots, tight-fitting apparel, cheap plastic stuff, and color. Definitely color. Keep in mind the word BRIGHT or NEON as you shop, and remember that your number one priority is a little something we like to call SKINNY JEANS. Emphasis on the skinny. If you're over 120 pounds? Sucks for you! These pants show off the scene girl's signature waif-like figure in a very attractive way. Typically you will want to stick with dark washes or black denim, a bonus being that they are visually slimming and more flattering than the traditional blue jeans. Also try colored jeans like hot pink or yellow.
The next thing you'll want are cute t-shirts. Try band tees for scene bands like Paramore, White Tie Affair, or 3OH!3. Also try cartoon characters - basically anything that looks like something your little sister would wear. Some popular characters are Hello Kitty, Miffy, Charlie the Unicorn, Skelanimals, Gloomy Bear, Tinkerbell, Mario, Power Rangers, Superwoman, Yo Gabba Gabba, etc. You get the idea. Make sure that they are bold and draw attention.
For shoes, most scene girls wear ballet flats, which come in a variety of styles and colors. Slip-on Vans-style shoes are okay too. Boots and heels are typically to be avoided, with a few exceptions of course.
Accessories are practically sky's-the-limit. If you feel like tying a string around a cassette tape and wearing it around your neck, go for it. Usual suspects for accessories are leopard-print leggings, silver tiaras, hair bows, and tutus. You can wear tutus over dark jeans or leggings with flats, and even pair it with that rhinestone tiara you've had your eye on. Plastic jewelry is also a must - try long strands of neon beads that you can wrap around your neck a few times. Pile on the faux cocktail rings and bangles. Hair bows are worn by nearly every scene girl, so give it a try! Dots, animal patterns, stripes, glitter, satin... big or tiny, they will always be popular scene girl style. Three scene points if you make them yourself. Sunglasses are also popular - but only huge plastic ones, even better if they're neon. The best thing to try is Kanye West-style shutter shades, which are now totally the sex in the scene world.

Step Four: The Music
This step is easy. Immerse yourself in every kind of music you've ever heard of.
Oh, and don't worry - country, classical, and folk music are exceptions.
Start with the hottest scene bands, like 3OH!3, Paramore, White Tie Affair, FOB, The Ting Tings, and Metro Station.

Step Five: The Attitude
Scene girls never let anyone boss them around. Why? Because we are the boss. Just don't be too haughty and arrogant or no one will want to be your friend - just be snide enough to let other people know that you don't take shit.
Also, be a little random... but not obnoxiously or disturbingly random. Like announcing that you use your power toothbrush to masturabate. Or that you had a dream about getting crushed by a purple zebra stampde. 'Cause that's just so not scene.

Step Six: Learn the Lingo
Rawr. Rad. Stellar. That's Golden. OMG. The sex. If you don't say any of these, now would be a good time to start. Scene girls tend to type overusing letters at the end of each word. They also use "&&" instead of "and," and use as many abbreviations as possible. You don't say "bitch," say "betch." Use variations of common words and phrases, or make up your own. You never know when your word might be the next big thing. You can also get away with saying "brb," "idk" or "omg" out loud in a conversation.

- Examples -
"OMG Kira, you went to the show on Saturday without me? You're a total betch."
"Your new extensions look rad. Your hair is the sex."
[Typing] "Hey betch u shud gshopping w/me on fri && lets ask Kayley 2g2. Rawrr <33 c u l8r"

Step Seven: The Lifestyle
You can't look scene without being scene. Go to as many music shows as you can, and mosh lots. Go vegetarian, just because it's so rad like that. Say that you're sxe (No, it's not sexy - it's straight-edge, stupid) even if you're not. So basically say you don't smoke or drink in excess or participate in casual sex. Even if you do... there's always soap and water for those x's on your hands. Or you can just be so hxc (hardcore) that you just get baked every day. But most kids think it's cool to be sxe, although probably around seventy percent of them only pretend to be. Another really low thing that lots of scene kids are into is saying that they're bisexual, lesbian, or gay. Or the one that really cracks me up - "pansexual." Which is bad for those of them who really are homosexual or pansexual or bi. Apparently it's the cool thing now to be "sexually open-minded."

Like I've said before, confidence is THE key trait. Believe that you are beautiful. Believe that no one is cooler, funnier, prettier, or more fun than you are. If you believe in the person you are, others will believe it too - and you will be.
